How I Feel Today

So, my 13 year marriage is over.  Not really a big surprise.  It hasn't been good for a few years now.  Not for want of trying.  Trying hard.  Hoping and praying, working hard for miracles.  But I must begin a new path.  2010 will forever be a dark year for me, but I look forward with faith in God to see light in 2011.

This song is how I feel today.

Esmeralda's Prophecies

On Main Street in Disneyland I received this prophecy from Esmeralda...she is front and center in the arcade, and she has never once been off.  Seriously.  NEVER. So without further ado:

You have had a lot of trouble, for which others are largely responsible (DH), but you are now reaching a point when you will be able, by your own efforts, to control your own affairs (separation).  You are not easily understood, as you keep much to yourself. (Well, my bloggy readers know some).  You are fond of fine arts (this is true, but I never get around to going to the symphony or even those lovely Christmas concerts, or out to the museums to see the latests exhibits...oh man, do I have some resolutions) and like to be alone a great deal (this is true, alone time gives me time to recharge, put me with people too long and I get irritated-I need a little "me" space to unwind, or focus on a task without distractions).  You sometimes have a desire to destroy things, especially in your young days (I'll admit I've made more than 1 hole in a wall....long time ago, k?), for which you are sorry afterward (yeah, sorry I had to fix it, hehehehe).  Be careful when the figure 7 appears on any money transaction, and keep your eyes open to some of your "would be" friends. (okay, ya'all better not cross me, GOT IT!)

All this for 25 cents.  What a bargain.  Happy day peeps, and be careful with those 7's ;)

Save the Drama for Your Mama-Oh Wait, I'm Your Mama

Sorry if my post is negative today,  I just gotta get this off my chest.

With the holiday season comes excitement, fast- paced in all it's glory.  With excitement comes the inevitable meltdown.  I have been dealing with kids full time.  I am the only parent who parents around these parts.  My insignificant other is never to be found.  Oh he comes home only when it is convenient for him, like today when he ran out of clean clothes.

It's not so bad when he is gone...I keep to a fairly settled schedule.  Wake kids up, breakfast, hair, school for the big ones, school for the little one, pick up little one, pick up big ones, snack, homework, dinner, baths, bedtime.  It's important to me that this be adhered to as much as possible for the sake of ALL our sanity.

Enter DH*- lets go rock climbing (um, kids need to finish homework), Let's go see a movie (At 8:00pm on a school night, no FREAKING way, are you EVER here to help me wake up kids in the morning and get them ready for the day?), Oh, I've decided to rearrange this room (what the he$$?  No, the kids can't find their things and I'll be cleaning up after you for 3 days).

Well guess what?  DH is the FUN Dad.  The kids get to play and have a fun time...guess who gets left in the dust?  Yup, it's pretty much a no brainer.

After the fun exciting "Dad" time, who is left with the tired, whiny, hungry kids?  How convenient for you DH that you have to go to work.  I get yelled at, cried at, deal with nightmares and fighting after you leave.  Did I ask for this? No way, but there I am having to deal with the drama of post-daddy fun.  Sometimes being a mom is so hard.

Thanks for letting me vent.  I feel better. See :)

*DH in NO way refers to "darling husband" (lucky for you gals who actually have a darling husband).  I think you know the other connotation, right? (damn husband)

Happy Shopping/Friday Confessional

Friday Confessional is hosted by the lovely Glamazon.  Please link on up at her beautiful blog :)

I confess:

The thing I hate about shopping is waiting.  No matter what line I pick, someone in front of me has a problem where the manager needs to come and give assistance.  Happened Monday at Costco.  Two lanes open at the food court.  I chose the line with two people in it instead of three.  Person at the front got charged for something he didn't order and wanted his money back...meanwhile 8, yes EIGHT people have passed through the other line.  How long does it take to pop open the till and refund the money people?!

Kmart. (really, though, are there ANY Kmarts left?)  I used to work at Kmart when I was 18.  THERE is a store where you should bring someone with you.  Here's the "quick" plan.
1. Two of you enter store.
2. One stands in the single check-out lane and waits for turn at check out.
3. Other one shops for items needed, tries on clothes, stops by the cafe for a pretzel and and ICEE, uses the bathroom, takes a nap and proceeds to the check out where person #1 is waiting in line with 3 people in front still...

Walmart.  Oh two years ago my New Years Resolution was to only shop at Walmart once a month. (unless something came up like needing to get a birthday present 'cause my kid got invited to a party).  I think I only shopped there 16 times that year.  It was FANTASTIC.
Things I dislike about Walmart

1. Waiting.  Tell me Walmart people, what is the point of having 32 check stands if you only open 4 of them?  I find this to be an evil ploy.  If you only use all check stands on Black Friday you are wasting precious store space which could be filled with cheap Chinese-made junk we could spend money for but don't actually need.

2.  I hate to say this but Walmart shopping carts give me the heebie jeebies.  The year before I made my resolution I got sick 3 times after visiting Walmart....need I say more? This has improved over the years due to the sanitary wipe wash-down, but I still need to wash my hands with soap and water immediately after coming home.

3.  Crowded space.  I think recently Walmart has been working on this one.  In my opinion all aisles should be three shopping cart-width's wide.  You know SOMEONE is going to just park the cart and hog the aisle comparing nutrition facts or something and frankly I'd just like a way to get around them.

4.  Some of the patrons.  I once saw a lady in her underpants and a shirt.  Really, they were undies, not a swim bottom...ewwwww.  You all know about peopleofwalmart.com, right?  Unfortunately the pics are REAL .

Malls.  Malls are sometimes good, sometimes bad...I'll leave it at that for now.

HAPPY SHOPPING  :)

Paradise Lost

So today I was busy helping set up the South Stage at this years Festival of Trees. FOT is a fundraiser for Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City. My friend Aimee is a board member and I have been on her committee for the last 7 years or so.
Anyways. I digress. After 3 hours of stage set-up we were done and it was lunchtime. Just down the street is a Paradise Bakery. It was cold and gray outside, so soup sounded perfect. I got the "Signature You Choose Two". This entailed choosing from soup, salad and sandwiches. I chose soup and salad. I talked the guy at the cashier into giving me a cookie with it...the sandwiches all come with cookies...what gives? As it was, my "signature" combo was $8.50...so a cookie should automatically be involved kwim? Well, I added a small soft drink because I was desperate for some Dr. Pepper energy and about $11.50 later I was thinking I just should have gone to Lone Star and gotten a steak...jeez. Ah well. Live and let learn...

"Thankful"

Happy Thanksgivng.
This has definitely not been the best of years for me, but I'm striving each day to find things to be grateful for.  I'm so blessed to have my children.  They are my light.
I'm thankful for my extended family who have been such a huge support to me.
Mostly I'm thankful for my Heavenly Father.  He has been so kind, so giving and especially so loving.  I can not even begin to number the tender mercies He has given me.  I am so grateful to Him.  And as this Thanksgiving transitions into Christmas, I hope all of us remember how much we truly are given, and how much God wants for us to be happy.  I love you all and wish you a day filled with reflection on the blessings you do receive.  Happy Thanksgiving.

Holiday Cards

So lately I've been thinking about Christmas cards.  I've always been pretty good about sending out my cards by the 2nd week of December.  I write a little newsletter updating people about my family.  Last year things were kinda sticky-I made a top-ten list for each member of my family, 'cause really did I want to let people know I was in marriage counseling?  Hell no.

Well, I have NO freaking idea what to do THIS year. Hallmark doesn't exactly have a card for woman-who's-husband-is-a jerk-and-is-seperated-but-is-giving-her-husband-till-the-end-of-the-year-to-decided-if-he-is-going-to-pull-his-head-out-of-his-butt-and-take-care-of-his-family-responsibilities.  Yup, I looked.  NOTHING!
We definitely are not TOGETHER, but we are not officially DIVORCED.  In 6 weeks anyways I'll know for sure, right?

I'm secretly hoping DH (DAMN Husband) will tell me he definitely wants out, 'cause I'm sure as hell ready to move on.  I'd much rather be by myself than with someone who disrespects me and lies.  It will be something I'll really have to pray about if he decides he wants to stay.  I really don't want to be hurt anymore, which is what it boils down to.

I'm not saying I can't forgive and that I have done nothing wrong.  I know I have faults and shortcomings, but I am willing to work on those...but what can you do when the other person is so odious as to say he won't do anything anyone tells him to do (i.e. marriage counselor, clergy, own family) and that he has NO problems?  Pray for him.  I do.

Maybe I will send out New Year's cards.  Because by then I'm hoping I'll know for sure which way 2011 will be heading :)

Friday Confessional- The SUPER Early Edition

Friday Confessional is hosted by GLAMAZON (whom I hope will forgive me for not having her button in my post, 'cause I'm not tech savvy like that). Yes, I'm early, 'cause this week is BUSY, but you can link up (her button's on the right, right over there...).  ------------>

I confess:

-I am LIVID

-maybe not livid per se, but down right upset

-I was really looking forward to taking my daughter to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for her birthday present

-Guess what I found out?

-Harry is naked in two scenes
-yup, NAKED

-I am so disappointed in Hollywood

-these scenes are not necessary

-if they get away with this in Harry Potter, can you IMAGINE what they'll do in Twilight's Breaking Dawn?

-it's irritating, just irritating.

-But I must be strong and stand up for what I believe in-even if I stand alone.

Monday Mingle Old School Style

Monday mingle is hosted by Jen at eightyMPHmom

This week’s questions (submitted by Amy from Mevolving):
1. What pet have you always wanted? Yes, include the sublime and ridiculous as well.
2. What is your most recent favorite book and why?
3. If there is one film that you think everyone should watch what is it and why?

I'm sick today so I'll just type my answers

1.  I've always wanted a dog, but not the mess involved....that's not asking too much is it?  Plus I thought if I got a BIG dog it would force me to get some exercise...cause they need to be walked and all.  Hmmmmm.

2.  The last book I finished was "Stop Dressing your Six Year Old Like a Skank (and other words of delicate Southern Wisdom)" by Celia Rivenbark. It was a super quick and funny read, but I must warn you she used the "S" word from time to time.

3.  I recently watched "Bright Star".  It was really interesting and kinda sad (an account of John Keats, the poet)-but do YOU have to watch it?  Only if you want to.  Ohh I would also recommend "The Young Elizabeth".

I wish you all a great day.   Go on and link up.   Keep up the good work, and hopefully I'll have my voice back by next week :)

Friday Confessional

Friday Confessional is brought to you by Glamazon.  Link on up.

I confess:

For the first time in 8 (yes, EIGHT) years I opened my door to trick-or-treaters

GASP, I KNOW

this was because
I had a huge bowl of Halloween "goodies" -remember I don't do candy

We went to my brothers trunk-or-treat and passed out like 15 treats-we got rained out

I didn't want left-overs

I turned on my porch light

the kids came

Oh some really cute tiny ones dressed as bumble bees and lady bugs whose parents reminded them to say "Thank You".

But then I got some rude ones

they tried to smash my jack-o-lanterns, BUT

I was on the look-out and scared them nearly crapless

HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE

I guess Halloween CAN be fun!

Friday Confessional

Friday Confessional is hosted by Glamazon.  Please click on her linky to join the fun and see what wither have confessed.

I confess:

I dislike Halloween.  Mostly I'm just irritated by stupid people.  We have a "trunk-or-treat" here in my neck of the woods.  Everyone piles into their cars and heads over to the church parking lot where you open your trunk to the trick-or-treaters and pass out candy.

I don't pass out candy

Not saying I don't eat candy, but it just seems too freaking much for one night.

I give out pencils, stickers, spider rings, glow sticks ect.....

Which either makes me really cool or super lame.

I confess it irks the hell out of me when kids don't even bother to say "trick-or-treat".  They just stand there without he bag wide open and expect you to just drop something in.

What's worse is not receiving a "thank you".  This is probably one of my highest pet peeves about this nasty tradition.  If I go to the trouble to give something to you, a complete STRANGER, you sure as hell better be grateful.  Really, I don't expect your undying gratitude, but I do expect a  "thank you".

I confess I don't ever turn my porch light on on Halloween and receive Trick-or-Treaters at my home

Mostly this is due to the fact that I am ALWAYS alone (with the kids) on all Hallows Eve and in my hood I don't want to answer the door after dark.

I hide down stairs in the basement with all the light off and watch movies with my kids.

And still people ring the damn bell!

JUST GO AWAY!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE :)

Fill it In

Hello to my dear readers. All nine of you ;) I have been away on vacation, hence the lack of any new material here on my blog. I am still "decompressing" as it were, but this thought has been on my mind all day. I would ask that you "fill in the blank" with your answer in a comment.

You know you're too busy when____________________.

Here are some of my answers:

You know you're too busy when
1. you forget you volunteered at your kid's school that morning and your phone buzzes to remind you of your appointment
(Thank goodness I actually made it out of my jammies that day!)
2. it's 3:00 pm and you realize you haven't been to the bathroom since you woke up (and obviously were too busy to keep hydrated either)
3. you have to ask someone what day it is.

Okay people, make it as long or short as you want. I hope to hear from you soon!

Warmest Regards,

Debbie

Simple Plan

So a couple of weeks ago my friend Cluttered Brain had a run-in with a "lady" that lives by her.  It was quite a nasty encounter.  This brought back memories of two "friends" of mine who basically chided me and screwed me over for standing up for my convictions.  Oh I had a rough time of it.  It hurt me to the very core. So bad that I was even having health problems.  I have since overcome these two individuals. Thank Heavens.  This song by Simple Plan helped me through it.  In the end I'm glad I held firm in my beliefs, it proved to be a great learning experience for me.  Maybe my two former "friends" will encounter some of the Karma they dished out to me....
So I dedicate this song to all those people in my life who think they know better....educated idiots, shrews, those calling evil good and good evil, the cliques, those who judge from appearances and not from the heart.  This goes out to you ALL.

Never Too Late

Do you ever find it difficult to think of a title for your blog post?  Well, luckily for me today's came pretty easy.  I wanted to speak of only a specific thing today, that I'm just getting into again (that being regular exercise), but just as I was going to tell you of my adventures the thought struck me that I should post a list of things that it's never too late for.  And as I do, I invite you, too, to post a list of things that are never too late to do.

1. Yes, number one for me is getting to the gym, at least 3 days a week. I went to the I-Tunes store and typed in "running guide" or something like that in the search box.  I was able to find a FREE podcast that eases you into running a 5K in 6 weeks.  The podcast is  called 5K 101.  So off the gym I went.  They have these treadmills with built in fans at the gym, Oh how I LOVE the constant flow of air to dry the sweat off my face.  So, I followed "Todd" the personal trainer in my first work out since 20?? (muffled).  Wow, It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.  I felt really good afterwards.  Honest.  Last night my legs were a LITTLE sore, so I put my feet up and went to bed.  Today I"m still feeling well.  I have my gym clothes ready to go in the morning for day 2 of week one.   In the words of SpongeBob Square Pants "I'm ready!"

2- It's also never too late to realize how much you love your children.  How you truly want the best for them, how you want them to know how much you love them, and how you would do anything for them.  My kids are about to go through a hard time.  They are being dealt the short end of the stick.  I want them to know that I will be their rock.  I will be there with open arms.  I will be there with listening ears.  My heart is theirs.  My life is theirs.  They are my everything.  Everything.  They are the best thing that has ever come from me.  Ever.

3- It's never too late to start a blog.  Or your 7th.  Yes, this is my 7th blog.  Don't even bother trying to find the other six...they are not listed.  My original blog is about my family.  It has my kids' stuff on it.  If you know me and my family PERSONALLY then it might be interesting, but I don't want to bore you to death with silly things.  So THIS is my blog.  After last weeks Monday Mingle I came to find that a few people have a blog their FAMILY doesn't know about.  This thought had never crossed my mind, but it intrigued me nonetheless.  I say this because ONE time I used my blog to vent about a certain family member whom I lived with....well I got some flack for it from someone else and edited my writings. NOT ANYMORE!  I am 30? (muffled) years old and refuse to be silenced! (except when telling my weight or age, hehehe).  And sometimes I just need to vent...as I know we all do.  Therefore I Christen this MY blog and I'll put on it whatever I darn well please...and I encourage you all to do the same.  Now go write your lists :)

WIMTS

What I Meant to Say Wednesday

I spent my Labor Day...laboring

No, not THAT kind.  Whew.
My sister, who lives out of state recently got an apartment.  She's a nanny and had been living in-house.  Most of her things are still at my parents house, for obvious reasons.  So, Mom and Dad asked me to help pack up her belongings so they can drive them out to her this week.  After all "Your sister has been so good to you.  She has helped you move, she has watched your kids so you could take a shower, she spoils them rotten when she's here"  OKAY.  I got it.  So off I went to help pack boxes.

Mind you, my sister is wonderful.  But I recall more than once her mentioning how much CRAP I had when she was moving me.  Not to say that I don't.  I'm really trying to pare down and de-junk my space.  But we packed over 20 medium U-haul boxes from just her bedroom.  Even my mom made mention that I didn't have this much stuff.  So WIMTS was "Holy CRAP.  You have 4 times the CRAP I do.  Before you start judging me, take a look at your own dang space.  Yes, I do have a lot of things I don't need, but you have MORE!"

Today we are loading the truck.  I won't be there to empty it (hehehe).  I do not envy her the task she has ahead :)

Serious? aka The Lack of Common Sense

I recently went to a preschool orientation.  The letter was mailed out 3 weeks ago.  The flyer gave the who, what, where, when, why information and clearly stated that children were not to attend the orientation.
I arrived at the school 10 minutes early.  There were only 2 other people in attendance.  I received my folder and filled out the information needed.  I made a quick jaunt to the ladies room and when I returned to the classroom, the room was packed.  Good. Glad everyone decided to come.  I found a seat on the outskirts and sat down to listen to the teacher.  Unfortunately there were about 5 children present.  I went to the time and effort to arrange child-care for my son, so I was a little upset.  Did these people not read their letters?
Please note, I understand that at times things come up and you have to bring your child...I've been there.  But these children were running around dragging toys off the shelves (mind you, the noisy ones) and jumping around the place.  I was struggling to hear the teacher as she went over our packets.  I leaned over and shhhhhhhed some kids, but really, I should not have had to do so.  That is the parents job.  I felt so sorry for the teacher who was trying her best to make her voice heard over the tumult of a boy dragging his arm through a box of Legos.  If my child were making that much noise I would take him out of the room so that other people could hear.
I don't know if what happened next was worse.  The teacher had to tell parents to dress their children appropriately for the weather.  We have 4 distinct seasons each year where I live and having to tell parents to dress their child in boots, gloves, hats and COATS (not sweaters) for winter was just outright SAD.  But maybe not as sad as having to remind parents that their child needs to come to school with breakfast in their stomach.
FEED YOUR CHILDREN BREAKFAST FOR PETE'S SAKE PEOPLE.

Also, do not drop off your child early and pick them up late.
Do not bring them if they are sick (DUH!)
Bring a change of clothes for your child (do you not know preschool is messy and sometimes accidents happen?)
LABEL your children's belongings

I am disgusted that people need to be reminded of these sort of things.  Lack of education and general apathy are so present in today's society.  I pray we get back to some good old fashioned taking care of ourselves and our brood and not expect others to do it for us.  Supporting ourselves is a God-given privilege that needs to be valued and expected. There are MANY who can, but don't.  I pray they will realize the implications of their actions and choose to take action and DO.  It's not easy all the time, but it is definitely worth it.
