Christmas Joys

Lights.
Christmas lights bring cheer to dreary winter nights.
They remind us of the light we can be filled with by following our savior Jesus Christ.

Thankful

So, this month-as I do every November- I've been trying to focus on things I'm thankful for.  One exercise I've done is posting a status update on Facebook every day with something I'm grateful for.

This time in my life is a transitioning period.  I'm still trying to figure a lot of things out, and adjust to my new life situation.  Change is definitely a learning, stretching, growing experience if we let it be.

I am grateful for the scars.  They have molded and shaped me into who I am today.
I have learned I have more strength then I previously thought I did.  More often than not it comes from God.  There is power in prayer and asking for strength.

One thing I've learned too is if we take time to focus on our blessings before we go to bed at night, it helps our wheels to stop spinning.  You know what I mean.  When all you can think about is this negative downward spiral and one negative thought leads to another, and another.... you get my point.  By focusing on what we have, what talents or abilities we have, our friends, our family it turns the spiral upside down and we begin to ascend.  ASCEND.

We can therefore look up.  And if we are looking up-we can see and recognize things to be grateful for.  I wish for you all to look up.  You will find blessings.  You will.

Happy Thanksgiving

Speed Dating

Hello beautiful blog readers,

I know it's been a while since I've posted a real blogpost.  Please forgive me.  Even though my divorce is final it's still been a rough past couple of months.  Which brings me to the topic of my post.  Speed Dating.

Has anybody tried this?  What was it like?

I had my first taste of speed dating last Friday when I went to a mid-singles Halloween dance.  They had a card for everyone and a number assigned to you.  Women on one side, men on the other and off you went for 45 seconds asking and answering questions.  If you liked the person then you circled his number on your card, and if they liked you, they circled your number.  Then when all was said and done you handed in your card (it had your e-mail address on it) and if you had circled their number AND they had circled yours they would set you up to meet again.

It is actually very interesting what you can learn about a person in 45 seconds.  I met some great people who shared a lot of the same interests as me (U2 fan is a MUST!), which was great.  And then there were some creepy ones too.  Like the guy who was recently released from the mental hospital and is on about 5 medications, or the guy who spends all of his time taking apart small appliances and examining their motors...seriously what gives?

Well, I'm sure I'm in for many more adventures in dating land.  Wish me luck!

Wing Man

DISCLAIMER: Any and ALL typing/ grammer errors are the result of using my iPad to write this post on account of I'm just too lazy to go fire up the computer right now! I claim full responsibility for my mistakes and ask you to please overlook them.

wing·man /ˈwɪŋmən/ noun plural wing·men /-mən/ [count] : a pilot or airplane that flies behind and outside the leader of a group of airplanes in order to provide support or protection — often used figuratively ▪ She was my wingman [=she helped me] on the project.

Tonight I was the wing man for a friend. We are both single -she lost her hubby to cancer- and you all know I'm divorced now. We decided to go to a dance. Do any of you know how long it's been since I've been dancing? Seriously, comment and make a guess-I'll let you know in my next post.

Well I got all dressed up. Had my slacks, my asian/eastern inspired shirt (with sparkely studs!), my chandelier earrings and my hair was pumped up and curly. After I finished accessorizing with a cocktail ring my friend picked me up. I asked her how she felt about body glitter and she said we should go for it. A couple quick sprays later we were sparkly and ready to go.

We went to dinner first and I tried so hard not to think about dancing. When we got to the dance it was kinda slow going.  We weren't the FIRST ones' there but the crowd was thin. I was nervous. My stomach was doing a dance of it's own-a thing something like nausea and then butterflies. Perfect justice would be having my ex feel all the emotions he's put me through or that have stemmed from this divorce. I prayed I wouldn't throw up on anyone.

After about 20 minutes of canvasing the area and more people coming I got asked to dance. This in itself was HUGE for me. My friend is way cuter than me-at least I think so-so that was a good shot in the arm for my confidence. WoooHoo! I danced three songs with the guy and it was good. I kept trying to talk myself into asking someone to dance and then felt like such a chicken. I am one to take charge of situations and get things done, but when it comes to guys...I prefer someone who will at least meet me half way. I like a take-charge kind of guy. I felt like I was in high school again, building up the courage and then rationalizing that right when I ask them the song will change. Does it really matter? No. Yes?

I thought I saw one of my clients from the place where I do corporate massage. It turned out not be him for which I was grateful. Although 1/2 way through a guy from that office came over and asked me to dance- what are the odds? I ran into 3 other people that I know, so that was fun.

My friend and I had worked out a secret signal if we needed each other to swoop in and perform wing man duties. I walked by and noticed her and signed and she signed back. I signed again to double check but nothing, so I went away. A few minutes later the guy I know from work came over and we went outside on the patio for a bit. My friend was there, but I guess she didn't notice me, cause she was talking to the same guy out there. My guy was going on and on about his past relationships and I kept glancing at my friend to make sure she was okay-she just didn't see me for some reason. I feel bad cause on the drive home she said she was stuck wtith this guy for like an hour. I guess I need to work on my wing man skills. Don't worry, I'll hone them and swoop in and rescue her next time for SURE!

So, gotta tell you the highlights of the dance:
 - The hair. Seriously saw 40 year old women rocking their high school hair styles. Can we say bad perms?
-The clothes. Mom Jeans. Burn them baby and get something flattering!
-muscle shirts-never has a shirt said so much about so little
-finally getting over my butterflies and asking some people to dance (unfortunately one of them had the same name as my ex-and I found out he didn't have the same standards as me-must be something about the name-note to self: avoid at all costs.)
-getting asked to dance by two complete strangers!!!!! WOOT- this old girl's still got SOMETHING!
On the downside-I think I pulled an ovary. Goodnight :)

Autumn Poem

Dusky twilight
Birds flitting between the trees

Smell of rich good earth
Bubble and cadence of
murmuring fountain

Slightest tinge of gold on
green green leaves

A sigh of quieting down
Slowly the garden is falling asleep.

Flirty Aprons

Who says moms can’t look cute and sexy in the kitchen?  Flirty Aprons has an adorable line of kitchen aprons that are fun and functional.  They’ll keep your clothes clean while you are working in the kitchen, whipping up some cookies or making a delicious dinner for your family.  You’ll look fashionable at the same time!  Made from 100% soft cotton fabric and quality construction, these aprons won’t fade or tear.  These women’s aprons are about to change your outlook on cooking and working in the kitchen.  Flirty Aprons- Freedom from domestication.
I absolutely adore the look of these aprons and I love wearing them even more.  They're so cute!  I feel more like a domestic goddess rather than a slave in the kitchen when I wear them (even when it’s over my pajamas…shhhh!).  You are probably familiar with the trend “Trash the Dress” where women do crazy things with their wedding dresses after the big event is over, like wearing it into a swimming pool.  Well Flirty Aprons is taking that concept and daring you to trash your old apron.  They are offering 20% off a new apron from Flirty Aprons with code BB20 and giving you the chance not only for a full refund on the purchase price but a $100 Visa gift card as well.  Here’s how:
  1. Pick out an adorable new apron at www.flirtyaprons.com
  2. Don’t forget to use code BB20 to take 20% off
  3. Take a video of  the creative way you destroy your old apron and post it on YouTube (YouTube videos need to have Flirty Aprons in the title)
  4. Email your video links to matt@flirtyaprons.com by September 10th at 11:59 PST
The top 10 most creative entries will receive a full refund of the Flirty Apron Purchase price.  The #1 most creative video will receive a $100 Visa gift card in addition to the apron refund.  Winners will be picked by Flirty Aprons.
Doesn’t that sound ridiculously fun?!  These aprons are so cute you’ll have a hard time picking just one.  Have a friend who likes to bake?  Flirty Aprons would make an awesome gift!  Just make sure you get one for yourself first! :)

Still Kickin'- Kinda

Hello to my 16 readers.  How are you?  I'm sorry i've been out of blogland for a while. It's been a rough summer.  I had divorce mediation to attend. Having to decide who gets what and how to arrange my new life hasn't been easy.  My divorce was finalized mid August.  2 days before my 14th anniversary.  I made it 13 years 363 days-but the last time I remember us both being happy was probably 2007.

Part of me feels like a complete failure.  I tried everything in my power to keep it together,  i really did.  But ultimately it comes down to the fact that it takes two people wanting to work on a relationship to make it work.  For what ever reasons my ex decided to check out.  So be it.  I want you to know I'm not whining or bitching here-I do wish him well, and I hope he finds whatever it is he is looking for in life.  It's just that I miss how he used to be with me.

I have decided that I deserve a happy life too.  I am finding strength in motherhood.  I love my children so much.  They are my most precious accomplishment and my greatest achievement.  I wish that they didn't have to suffer any pain and frustration and hurt.

Do you ever feel like you have everything and nothing to say at the same time?  Sorry for my ramblings...

All I can tell you is it's been an awful August.  I know of 3 deaths,  my aunt got in a bicycling accident and broke her leg so bad she required an operation, a very good friends' 3 year old girl fell out of a 2 story window and required surgery, another good friend was hit by another car on the the freeway and crashed into the wall totaling her car and getting whiplash.  My divorce was finalized and a friends is just beginning.  Another friends newborn baby was diagnosed with heart problems.  It has been c ra zy.  Earthquakes on the East Coast and now a hurricane. I'm just bracing myself for the next thing.  When did the world get so topsy turvey?

Well, come what may, we need to carry on.  I wish you all well and may your news be good!

I'm Back-Kind Of

Hello beautiful people.

How are you today?  Did you miss me?  I've been missing me too, more especially I miss blogging.  I'm sorry I've been gone so long.  I've been busy with divorce proceedings.  Can you forgive me?  It has been  SO STRESSFUL the past month.  And in that respect I will try and blog more often.  Mostly this is because it is a good tension outlet and is good for my soul.

I make a little disclaimer though- that being said I probably won't be having time to blog hop too much.

How to Almost Get Thrown Out of a U2 Concert

Oh - My - Gosh!  All I can say is that I laughed, I cried, I almost got thrown out by a security guard....  Details to follow.  But first, kinda hard to see I know but the bottom line of the screen in the first photo reads "Blog posts today 3,421,179"  I thought how apropos!  Sorry the pics are sorta crappy I took them with my piddley blackberry camera.  Then I had to upload them to Facebook before I could get them to iPhoto.  I need to get one of the card adaptors that makes your teeny tiny SD card fit into a regular SD card slot and not get lost.  Oi.  Technology.

Let me say that the 360 Tour did not disappoint.  The opening act was The Fray. They performed some popular songs like "Never Say Never" , "How to Save a Life" and "Over My Head".  Between The Fray and U2 the screen was rotating with all sorts of information and time from places across the globe.

 The show was spectacular.  AMAZING
 and
LOUD
"The Claw" is a jaw-dropping feat of physics in action.  What didn't this stage have?
The screen was spectacular.  It expanded and contracted and images rotated.  I have more pictures of this but can't get them to upload right now. grrr.
The performance was out of this world.  There were some lesser "radio" played songs that true U2 aficionados would know and appreciate.  At times it was a flashback to the 80's but kept true to the music of today as well.

Highlights of the show:

*Bono acknowledges the one year wait we had to endure due to his emergency spinal surgery.  Acknowledges and THANKS us for hanging in there and supporting him TONIGHT (at the show)

*Pulls 3 sisters on stage and has them read a poem he wrote about Utah.  I Love that they do a local flare everywhere they play.

*Tells the story of how The Edge had problems with the hot water in his hotel room shower.  And how he bought a teakettle to make hot water and then other items to fix the shower with.  He didn't have a hissy fit and charge out of the hotel or rant and rave at the manager-he just found a quiet solution to the problem.  KUDOS to The Edge!!!
(puts these diva rock stars nowadays to SHAME)

*When the 500,000 led panel screen expanded for the first time

* Vintage video of U2 during their "Joshua Tree" days playing on the screen during one song.

*How Bono and U2 have a knack of making you think globally and of more than just yourself.  It puts your "problems" into perspective for sure.

*Bono coming swinging down from the middle "rocket ship" out over the crowd on that blue microphone contraption.

*And seeing for myself that they do get better with age-be still my heart!

Now for the almost getting thrown out part:

My sister was going to the concert too.  Well, she managed to procure some back stage passes (through her work).  I told her to just take her friend who was with her- really  it was OKAY.  So, along with the passes came better tickets.

She sent me an IM to tell me where her new seats were.  I was only in the third row back in the stadium,  NOT on the floor.  She was on the floor, but in the platform so she was a little closer than me but not pressed with the general admission peeps.  I IM'd her back and told her I was super close.  So she comes walking over and I go down to meet her at the railing.  I'm asking her how the backstage thing was (she said she didn't get to meet the band, and I thought that was the POINT of a backstage pass).  And I'm crouching down and she is by the barricade on the floor.  There is at least 12 feet between us. I asked her if she wanted me to take her picture with the stage in the background and she said yes.  I take her camera and snap a picture.

Next thing I know the security guard from the floor is screaming "Give me your ticket".  I kinda panic because I'm thinking maybe it's not okay to take a picture.  I reply "What ticket?"  He just yells again and I tell him I don't have any ticket except the one in my purse.  I told him I was just taking a picture.  He said something about "I'll THROW YOU OUT" and I was like "For taking a picture?"  He left me alone after that.

As I was heading to my seat it occurred to me he might have thought that my sister was passing me a ticket to try and get both of us down on the platform or that I was trying to sneak down, which I WASN'T!!!!  Stupid guy was on a power trip I think.

There was a group of people on the row in front of me and they asked what happened.  I told them the guard thought that I was trying to sneak down or something.  They were really cute and when the guard made his way back up by our area they heckled him.  I got support from complete strangers! So thank you to the guys from row two right in front of me!!!

The Thing I Miss About Winter

It's finally May, and for the most part the weather has been lovely.  People have been mowing their lawns, digging the weeds and planting gardens.  The leaves are on the trees, gentle breezes wisp through the yard.  Ahhhh.

But why is it that when the temperature rises so does the noise?  I'm not saying the kids riding bikes or playing in their backyards.  That's all fine and good.  I am saying that I've noticed that when the temperature goes up so do peoples' sound systems.  It is aggravating to the nth degree.  I seriously do not want to hear your "music". Put your dang earphones in and jam on your own time.  Especially on a school night.  Jerks.

What do YOU miss about winter?

High Heels

Okay peeps,
I just gotta put this out there to all of you.  WHY do people wear high heels in impracticable places?  Maybe it's just me, but why would you want to torture yourself at the amusement park, or walking the sprawling gardens stretched out over endless acres, especially when the path is cobblestone or gravel?  The home improvement show at the Expo Center with concrete floors, heck, ANYWHERE with concrete floors.  I just don't get it.  I don't.  My feet and lower legs ACHE after wearing heels for more than an hour.  I'm feeling it for days afterward.

For me, heels are worn to special occasions.  A wedding (not the whole time though), for taking pictures, and sometimes to church.  I am just on my feet so much that wearing heels is an affront to my health.  How about you?  I'm curious to know, so comment below!

That's One Big Baby

I clipped this out of the newspaper and forgot about it.  As I was cleaning up today I knew I had to post it on my blog.  All I have to say is either that is one big baby or one SMALL big sister.  They do have different dads apparently.

What's the Point?

So today I went to lunch with a friend.  We went to Cafe Rio.  A semi-casual dining establishment.  The kinds where you stand in a line, get to the counter and order your food.  Drinks are from a cardboard cup filled at the drink station.
My friend and I both just wanted water.  The drink station was swarming with people, due to the fact that it was lunch hour for the business park near by.  The water button is the kind you push down with your finger right in front of the lemonade.  We both filled up and ate lunch.   On the way out we both wanted a refill.  Once again it was swamped by people.  I filled up my cup and noticed my friend filling hers up too.  I looked closer at the button she was pushing.  It was marked soda.  I asked my friend if she knew she was getting plain soda water, she hadn't noticed.

Then it hit me,  I have NEVER seen anyone fill up with just plain soda water.  Seriously, what's the point?  Can you imagine "Yes dear, I'd love a refill, just plain soda water".  I don't get it.

Current questions {week of 3/21/11}:
1. What would you do for fun if you had to give up TV and internet?
2. What is your favorite breed of dog?
3. What is under your bed right now?

Hello everyone.  Welcome to Monday Mingle hosted by eightyMPHmom.  Please link on up and join in the fun.

Today I am doing my answers in written form.  Booooooo.  I KNOW.  But it's better than nothing and I've been SO  FREAKING BUSY that I haven't had time to make a video.  Plus I really MISS YOU ALL so I HAD to participate this week.  Here goes.

1. If I had to give up the TV and internet I would be a lot more productive in getting things done around the house.  I would probably also seek fun in more girls night's out and by reading more books.

2. My favorite breed of dog is a scottie dog.  They are just so little and cute and seem so, well, proper.

3.  Under my bed is a cacophony of bins.  Got my sewing kit, a bin for the odd socks, bin for papers and junk. Shoe box with shoe polish in it, a box of cords and wires from the ex, a box of candles, a laptop tote bag, and probably dust/dust bunnies.  Really exciting, I know.

Anyway my beautiful Monday Mingle friends, I wish you all a happy and productive week.  LOVE YOU ALL!!!

Simply Disgusting

I have been meaning to post about this nasty subject for quite a while.  And it was confirmed to me that I should after twice in one week experiencing the phenomenon of being in a public restroom and having someone walk out without washing their hands.

Shame on you people for spreading your germs and yuck around.  You are revolting.  Do you somehow think that after doing your business and wiping you are magically germ-free? Or after changing a diaper you are squeaky clean?

I remember reading an article a few years back about how there are less germs on the OUTSIDE of a bathroom door, than on the inside.  Ya'll KNOW what's on those knobs and door pulls don't you?

Which brings me to mention that I NEVER open a public restroom door with my bare hand. NEVER.  I'll use a paper towel or if none are available (due to there only being hand dryers)  I'll use the inside of my jacket.  It's just too risky not to.

Speaking of restrooms,  what's with hanging the toilet paper dispenser so low to the ground?
I constantly bump my knee or thigh on it, and then I have to crouch down so low to finagle my hand up into the dispenser to find the roll of paper.  Then, when said paper is found it's as thin as tissue paper.  Is this someones sick joke?  Why would I want to wipe my butt with something I can see through?  So I have to pull out like 20 feet of tissue paper to layer it into 2-ply at least.  I think I need to pack a roll of TP in my purse.

Oh, how about those faucets with no handles?  I can see the premise here-when you come out of the potty you spread your germs to the faucet, then wash and re-germ your hand when you go to shut off the faucet.  But really, those "magic" faucets never seem to work for me.  I go down the line from sink to sink then back and maybe get 10 seconds water time...it's so frustrating that maybe I won't wash MY hands next time....

EW.  Just kidding.  And as a back up I have hand sanitizer :)

Have a happy day peeps.  Be careful out there in those restrooms :D

Friday Confessional

Hello people.  Happy Friday to you.  It's time once again for Friday Confessional hosted by Glamazon and Mamarazzi.  To whom you can link up respectively.

I confess:

I read Flylady newsletters.  They are really inspirational.  I am "fluttering" right now in keeping my house in order, but hope to be able to get all flylady's routines down so the house "practically cleans itself"

I got rid of over 200 pounds of "stuff" from my house in January. (Thanks Flylady)

My 2nd daughters room is a freaking mess.  Do I clean it up again?  I hate babysitting her while she does it.  Takes her 2 hours, I could be done in 20 minutes.  Decisions decisions...

I want to repaint my bedroom.  Ever since hubs moved out...  I want to rearrange the furniture too, except it will only fit in one way 'cause the room is only 12 feet by 15 feet.

I really feel the need to put all of the pictures of our family into a box or album.  I have way too many in frames of "happier times" that I don't want to be reminded of.
I'm just worried that if the kids came home to a house with no pictures they'd be upset.  Any thoughts?

Has anybody gone through mediation as a means to divorce?  I am filing myself but have heard about mediation too.  I could use any advice you've got. I confess it would help put my mind at ease to know my options.

I confess I am strong and will make it through this!

Happy Friday my friends.

Small Enough

It's been a hectic week.  Had two sick kids, still filing my divorce papers, started a new job and have lots of thing to do for church.  I was feeling a little overwhelmed.  But then I cam across this.

Have a peaceful Sunday.  I know I will.

Friday Confessional

I've had a really upsetting week.

Why do people put their noses in your business and judge you without knowing the whole story?  In all fairness, if they knew the whole story, aka THE TRUTH, they'd probably apologize PROFUSELY and see where I was coming from.

It's so easy to get mad

It's easy to let the anger eat you up

Guess what's good for that?

Chocolate

And hugs from your sweet boy.

4 year olds give the best hugs, ever.

I confess that I no longer will take bad energy from people

Fling it at me and I will throw it on the trash heap!

I confess that confessing sure make me feel better.

Don't let people throw their trash at you!!  Tell them to take it to the dump :)

Please link up at Glamazon.  Trust me, you'll feel better. :D

Instinct

So lately I've been second guessing my instinct. And guess where it's gotten me? WRONG-every time.

For example today at IKEA I passed what was left of the Christmas clearance items. Stcked neatly on the shelf were boxes of red and white tapers. I thought 70 percent was was great, but then my instinct set in and said "Debbie, those probably won't be on clearance because they are candles, an ALL season item". Then I thought I shouldn't buy them because I am good in the candle dept.

Well, I reasoned with myself that I was going to host more parties and would therefore need the candles. Guess what happened at the check out?

Yup. NOT on sale. I bought them anyway because there were people in line inching closer by the minute and I didn't really want to have to call someone over.

I'll probably end up returning them next week when I'm back in the area. WHY didn't I listen?
